Factors To Consider When Picking Prisoner Transport Systems

By Mattie Knight

The process of moving prisoners from one place to another is usually a sensitive affair. To ensure maximum security and that prisoners do not breakout or hurt each other or hurt the law enforcement officers transporting them, it is vital to select prisoner transport systems that are secure. Here are factors to consider when making your selection.

The circumstances surrounding the move will determine the most suitable means of transport. For prisoners who need to be moved fast and to far away locations, air transportation may be the most suitable option. Road transportation may be more suitable for short distances. You should also consider transportation through rail, if it is available and may be more convenient than road transportation.

Your transportation budget matters a lot. Generally the cost of transporting criminals is high due to the number of measures that have to be put in place to secure them. Air transportation is among the most expensive. The number of personnel accompanying the criminal influences the cost. The more the personnel, the more expensive it will be. The cost of gas matters, so the more vehicles you use the more you will have to spend.

How many inmates need to be moved on a regular basis should be considered. If a lot of inmates need to be transported, it would be advisable to buy a big vehicle. However, if you only need to transport a few inmates, you can buy a smaller vehicle, such a van or a car. Having a range of vehicles in big sizes can give you the option of choosing the most appropriate transportation means when the need arises.

You can buy ready-made vehicles that are already secured or you can have them customized to your needs. Customized vehicles are a good option if you want particular features added to the vehicle that you will be using. To go for this option, you need to give the vendor plenty of time for the vehicle to be worked on. This will work out best if you do not urgently need to use the vehicle.

The profile of the prisoners to be transported should be thought about. Hardened criminals require more security during transportation than petty thieves. This means that you may have to use more secure vehicles for dangerous criminals. You will also need to have armored vehicles and extra personnel to accompany the vehicle transporting the criminal.

The vehicle should be fitted with communication equipment. The more modern the equipment, the better. This helps guards to communicate with the relevant authorities while in transit. They can call for help if the need arises. If the vehicle does not come with the communication equipment you want, it should at least be possible for you to install the equipment that you prefer.

Try as much as possible to make your purchases from sellers who meet certain standards. They should be licensed and recognized by state security agencies. Buying from credible sellers means that you will find vehicles whose security fittings meet the required standards. Asking for recommendations from other security agencies will help you know where to find quality vehicles, so ask around for recommendations.
